Using YouTube Live Streams on Strimm

Use the viewing link for your specific YouTube live broadcast and make sure your channel allows live-stream embedding.

Account requirements

  • Account: A YouTube channel is required. A paid YouTube subscription is not required.

  • Live streaming enabled: Verify your channel by phone and enable live streaming. Initial activation may take 24 hours. You must be at least 16 and have no live-streaming restrictions within the past 90 days.

  • Advanced Features enabled: Embedding live streams requires Advanced Features. Check YouTube Studio → Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility. After phone verification, qualify through sufficient channel history or ID/video verification, where available. ID or video verification is not mandatory if your channel already qualifies through its history.

  • Mobile broadcasting: Streaming from the YouTube mobile app additionally requires at least 50 subscribers. This requirement does not apply to computer streaming.

Required settings and link

  • Visibility: Set the live broadcast to Public or Unlisted. Private broadcasts are unsuitable for Strimm viewers.

  • Embedding: Enable Allow embedding for the broadcast. Age restrictions and other playback restrictions can prevent viewing outside YouTube.

  • Link format: Use the specific broadcast’s viewing URL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIDEO_ID. Copy it from YouTube’s Share option.

  • Correct link: Provide the viewing link—not your channel homepage, YouTube Studio URL, RTMP server address, or stream key.

  • New broadcasts: Check the link for every new event. Reusing a stream key does not guarantee that the viewing URL stays the same.

  • Test playback: Start the broadcast on YouTube and test it on Strimm while signed out of YouTube. An upcoming event will not show live content until the broadcast starts.
